Out Like A Lamb; In Like A Lion

Or something like that.

Wave activity has all but become non-existent. The NPAC wave womb is barren and the only thing showing on the buoys is a pathetically weak pulse of predominantly southwesterly swell which has almost no readout at all at the beach. The SIO combined wave buoy data is about as flat as I've ever seen it from SoCal to NorCal, with only a few buoys showing the south swell.

The image is of the QuikScat satellite depiction of surface level winds in the NPAC wave womb. The only surface winds aimed at California are weak with limited fetch.

The coastal northwest winds that have been mighty fine contributors to local windswell have died down, leaving no hope for a combo swell that could interact with the weak south. Without those winds in play at least the water temps have come back up a bit, to a nice comfortable peak of 52.9 degrees today.

Light rain is forecast for later this evening and tomorrow starting south and moving north. For tomorrow absolutely no swell of interest is forecast or expected. Time for a paddle...wind permitting, and to get on those chores that need doing while we wait for the new season's pattern to emerge, and anticipate charging those fresh south swells.

  1. ...Having never attempted surfing in any way, shape or form, I am now tempted to do so thanks to your blog.

    Good stuff.
